              DENR Secretary Roy. A Cimatu together with Regional Executive Director (RED) Francisco E. Milla Jr. of Region 6 conducted an on-site inspection of the status of the ongoing Malandog River rehabilitation and management project in Hamtic, Antique.

             “We are happy to note that the ongoing rehabilitation of the Malandog River is on track. We hope to revive the fishing industry here so that people will sustain their livelihood. In addressing water pollution of the river, we are aiming for these Antiqueños to have a sustainable life,” said Secretary Cimatu.

               Malandog River is historically important to every Antiqueños as this was where the first Malayan settlers landed. This river is also an abundant fishing ground and it is the main source of livelihood for the community. Malandog River serves as the venue of the annual celebration called “Tiringbanay” which means “to be together.”

               Side by side with the ongoing Malandog River rehabilitation in the Manila Bay rehab, as Secretary Cimatu pursue the stricter implementation of the provisions of the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004. / DENR 6

International Day of Forests

In celebration of the International Day of Forests on March 21, 2019, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 6 through its Conservation and Development Division (CDD) and in collaboration with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), has conducted a Forum on Forests and Forest Fires at Brgy. Cag-an, Anilao, Iloilo.

 

In her message, CDD Asst. Chief Emelyn Peñaranda highlighted the importance of tree planting in our forests which serve as our life support system. With the theme: Forests and Education, the CDD with BFP spearheaded the forum to educate the community in Anilao on the role that forests play in our everyday lives and its importance as discussed by DMO I Rod Reynan G. Laspiñas of DENR 6 and the need to prevent and control forest fires which was tackled by FO3 Reggie R. Juanola of the BFP./DENR 6
