A total of Two Thousand Five Hundred Fifty (2,550) seedlings of fruit and forest trees are distributed in the five towns of Aklan province, recently.

Species of tree seedlings are Narra, Cacao, Jackfruit, Coffee, Tughangin, Pomelo, Rambutan, Lanzones, Makopa and Mountain Agoho.

The province of Aklan has a total target of 1,194,140 for seedlings production. As of date, the province successfully produced 1,102,106 seedlings.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the province of Aklan was able to reach the remote towns and rendered its services to the grassroots communities by actively supporting the “Gobyerno sa Baryo”, a joint project spearheaded by the Congressional Office of Aklan and the Office of the Provincial Governor. The program became an avenue for the DENR Aklan to reach the people who can hardly avail of their services due to their remote locations.

DENR, through its Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) led by PENR Officer Ivene D. Reyes, actively campaign for support to the NGP as this is one strategy to lessen, if not avert, the impacts of climate change.

Aside from the NGP, DENR Aklan also implements the Community-based Forest Management (CBFM) CARP projects, which are aimed at poverty reduction and hunger mitigation especially in the uplands.
