In line with the celebration of Environment Month this June, the DENR VI will showcase the different protected areas in the region, the various species of migratory birds in the region, impacts of climate change, and best NGP (National Greening Program) sites here, among others.

“We have to be vigilant and responsible in protecting our natural resources. We need to inform everybody the effects of climate change and the measures to combat its adverse effects on us,” said Regional Director Jim O Sampulna.

This year’s theme, “Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care.” emphasizes the need for a responsible management of the planet’s natural resources, bearing in mind that people are consuming far more natural resources than what the planet can sustainably provide.

Sampulna said that the public must also be aware of the projects and initiatives of the department likewise apprise themselves of the different protected areas and beautiful places in Western Visayas.

The DENR Photo Exhibit will be at the Robinsons Mall-Iloilo from June 9 to June 14; at the Gaisano City Mall from June 16 to 22; and at the Iloilo National High School from June 22 to July 3.

Earlier, the photo exhibit was put on display at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol on June 2 to 5.

The DENR is also observing its 28th Anniversary on June 10, Arbor Day on June 25, and Environment Day last June 5. A series of activities has been lined-up this month including those in the DENR field offices in Region VI.
