‘Isalvon” – the mascot for the near extinct Isabela Oriole (inset) debuts as the symbol of wildlife conservation program within the 359,486-hectare Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park (NSMNP). The mascot’s unveiling coincided with the launching of the ‘LAWIN Forest and Biodiversity Protection System’ which seeks to boost the country’s campaign against illegal wildlife trading and poaching using internet and high-tech wireless communication gadgets. Gracing the event are DENR Undersecretary Demetrio Ignacio (2nd from right), DENR Asst. Secretary Marcial Amaro (left) and Biodiversity Management Bureau Director Theresa Mundita Lim (2nd from left).
