Alfredo Andres, head of the Metro Manila Development Authority-Manila Bay Cleanup Operation Center, and Bureau of Equipment Director Toribio Noel Ilao, inspects the AmpEx or the long-reach amphibious excavator (inset) which will be used for desilting activities in Manila Bay in the coming months. The equipment has a maximum reach of 14 meters, moves in and out of the water by itself, and can work in different environment such as swamps and narrow channels. On a daily basis, the two AmpEx can excavate 720 cubic meters or around 60 truckloads of silt and waste combined.###
