Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Ramon J. P. Paje pins a medal on Quezon City Police Senior Superintendent Danilo Bautista, representing National Capital Region Police Office Chief Regional Director Joel Pagdilao, during the 3rd Wildlife Law Enforcement awarding ceremonies at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center. The event recognized 97 individuals and officials or personnel from various agencies and organizations who supported the DENR’s Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) in enforcing wildlife laws. Joining the secretary is BMB Director Theresa Mundita Lim. ###

Personnel of the Bureau of Customs were awarded with certificates of recognition for their role in a wildlife enforcement operation at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City in January, which led to the arrest and filing of criminal complaints against a government employee who attempted to transport 46 heads of various wildlife which were subsequently confiscated. The certificates were distributed during the 3rd Wildlife Law Enforcement Awarding Ceremony held in Quezon City in celebration of World Wildlife Day. The ceremony was led by Environment Secretary Ramon J. P. Paje (center, in eyeglasses), US Agency for International Development Environment Officer Dani Newcomb and Biodiversity Management Bureau Director Theresa Mundita Lim (right and second from right, respectively).

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Ramon J. P. Paje (holding string) leads the unveiling of the elephant monumental structure at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center as part of the nation’s celebration of World Wildlife Day. The statue is partly made out of ashes from more than four tons of elephant ivory tusks crushed and incinerated by the DENR in June 2013 to signify its commitment to fight the illegal trade of wildlife and by-products, especially ivory which is banned worldwide. Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Ramon J. P. Paje keynotes the 3rd  Asia-Pacific Forestry Week with a call to include forest communities in the design and implementation of forestry plans and programs.  Themed “Growing Together,” the event was jointly organized by the DENR and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN-FAO), with more than 1,000 forestry and natural resources experts and representatives from international, non-government organizations and forest industries from 30 Asia Pacific countries in attendance at the Fontana Hotel in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga. ###

Paje (inset) receives a “tree seedling of change” from the youth delegation during the opening ceremony of the 3rd Asia Pacific Forestry Week held Feb. 22-26, 2016 in Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga.  The handover of tree seedlings by the school children, who have always been viewed as powerful agents of change, complements the event’s theme, “Growing our Future,” which calls for the integration of forestry with the other facets of sustainable development.###
