Following the directive of OIC-CENR Officer Mamad T. Gandarosa Jr. of Cadiz City, personnel from CENRO-Cadiz City, led by Chief of the Enforcement and Monitoring Section Alexander Entero and Wildlife Resource Permitting Unit Chief Rezel Purisima, along with representatives from City ENRO Escalante and the informant rescued a Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus) on December 4, 2023, at Brgy. Langub, Escalante City.

This comes after a concerned citizen made a post on Facebook on December 3, 2023, informing the public about the presence of the bird in the said locality. It is observed that a resident kept the bird in a cage and claimed that his child had captured it on the coast of Brgy. Langub.

After having an initial physical examination, the raptor was found to be in good shape. It was then brought to the Cadiz City Veterinary Office for further assessment. Mr. Alex Bacomo, Assistant Veterinarian prescribed electrolytes, vitamins, and antibiotics upon observation, noting that the Brahminy Kite is healthy and free of injuries.

“I would like to remind everyone that wild animals must not be kept as household pets and must be free in their natural habitats. If you happen to see injured or captive wildlife, please contact the nearest environmental offices in your area for proper action”, DENR 6 Regional Executive Director Livino B. Duran pointed out.

The bird was ultimately released in the wild on December 5, 2023, at Sitio Aluyan, Barangay Caduha-an Cadiz City  with assistance of Cadiz City ENRO personnel Mr. Vied Andrada and Alfred Seballos.
