Aiming to empower the youth to become catalysts in the fight against climate change, the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Culasi, organized an educational discussion and tree planting activity at Barangay Alojipan, Culasi, Antique on November 25, 2023.

The activity was in line with the celebration of the National Day for Youth in Climate Action by virtue of Presidential Proclamation 1160 decreed in 2015. A total of forty-seven (47) participants volunteered during the tree planting activity that was made possible with the partnership between the elected Sangguniang Kabataan officials of Culasi and Dulungan Youth Organization.

A hundred fifty (150) Narra seedlings were planted in the CY 2014 graduated site of the National Greening Program (NGP).

“We are equipping the newly elected SK officials so that they can contribute, together with the youth of Culasi, in our efforts to mitigate the risks and adapt to the impacts of climate change. We are also incorporating this [activity] with their planned programs to align with the environment sector,” said Milky John M. Quillo, Forest Technician II and designated Planning Officer of CENRO Culasi.

An educational discussion about Youth in Climate Action was also led by Forest Technician Quillo who also serves as the Assistant Focal Person for Climate Change.
